We provide a variety of horseback riding lessons to able-bodied riders and therapeutic lessons to those individuals with disabilities year-round. Riding is particularly beneficial for people who have impaired mobility because the movement of a walking horse's back duplicates the "normal" movements made by an able-bodied person when walking. This movement helps to strengthen and build muscles in a natural way that cannot be achieved through traditional physical therapy. For the developmentally disabled, for those with autism and for many with Down syndrome, horseback riding is a physical and individual accomplishment that can be psychologically uplifting. Along with raising self-esteem, therapeutic horseback riding provides much needed social interaction in a setting that is non threatening. Most Red Cedar riding instructors are CHA certified and offer lessons in both English and Western riding. The center currently holds training and certification clinics to people from across the country that are learning to be riding instructors. Our many camp programs include weeklong day or residential camps and weekend retreats. We are proud of the fact that all of our camps have participants who are able-bodied along with those who have disabilities. Our equestrian riding program and lake activities, which run from May to November, are very popular, as are hayrides and bonfires in autumn.  The ideal prescription to make any day a special day is Red Cedar.
