Family support: Providing in-home services

Family life at any time can be hectic. But when a family cares for a loved one with a disability at home, juggling schedules and activities can be a challenge. That's why AWS offers a variety of in-home services that support the family in many ways, with each family receiving services based on a service plan developed in partnership with the family and AWS.

Using a "person-centered approach," we provide training, support and encouragement that fall under these general areas:

Training: These services include learning to master more daily living skills, socialization skills, making safe and healthy life choices in eating and other activities, and general "life skills" education.

Personal assistance: Specific services include meal planning and cooking, housekeeping, shopping, money management, and volunteering in the community. In all cases, the assistance matches the need — whether a few hours each week or 24-hour care.

Respite care: In some cases, parents need a break to go to the grocery, run errands, spend time with other family members or simply enjoy some "down time." Respite care affords the caregiver the time he/she needs, while ensuring their loved one is receiving the attention he or she requires.

Our people make the difference

The expertise and dedication of AWS employees provides the foundation for helping the people we serve. Employees serve as teachers, mentors, cheerleaders and advocates — always looking out for the person's best interests and helping him or her reach their maximum potential.

Fundamental to all employees is a rigorous training program, focusing on health and safety, as well as demonstrating respect for the people we serve — all with the goal of helping clients lead an inclusive, engaged life at full potential.
