CLIENTS PARTICIPATE IN A BIRTHDAY CARD CONTEST
There is no such thing as too much of a good thing – especially when it comes to our clients exploring their artistic gifts.
Clients’ artistic talents and expressions went on display January 20 at AWS’ Corporate Headquarters in Fort Wayne, when AWS held a “50th Anniversary Birthday Card Contest.” Seventy-nine clients from three states put their creativity to work to produce birthday cards in all sizes, shapes and colors, with many offering inspiring messages and expressions of gratitude to AWS.
Employees were encouraged to drop by Corporate Headquarters to vote for their favorites in the following categories:
- Prettiest
- Most original
- Most celebratory
- Best overall
Two of the four categories resulted in tied scores, with several runners-up trailing by one or two votes. Contest winners received a Visa gift card. Winners were:
- Prettiest: Kathleen from Fort Wayne, Indiana and Henry, from Santa Fe, New Mexico
- Most Original: Smith and Tammy from Fort Wayne, Indiana
- Most Celebratory: Harlen from South Bend, Indiana
- Best Overall: Ashley from Fort Wayne, Indiana
Winners Harlen and Ashley wrote these messages of appreciation inside their cards:
- “Happy Birthday AWS! Thank you for all the great years of making the world a better place for individuals with disabilities to live in.”

Cards will be on display at AWS’ Corporate Headquarters throughout 2010.
