Residential Services
Historically, the residential options for persons with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities were limited. Those who did not live at home with family were generally institutionalized. More often than not, institutionalization took them away from their community. Today, in part because of agencies like AWS, that philosophy has changed dramatically.
AWS provides a multitude of residential programs for people with disabilities to have the opportunity to live as independently as possible, be included within the community and achieve their maximum potential. The spectrum of residential services is broad and ranges from group homes to personal assistance for a few hours a week in an individual’s home or apartment to 24-hour care. AWS also developed two affordable housing complexes in Fort Wayne.
